What Are the Root Causes of Migration from Central America?
Part 5: Gender Discrimination and Gender Based Violence

Alianza Americas and Presente.org will host a series of panel discussions on the reasons behind the exodus of people seeking safety in the region

WHAT: As part of the series “Root Causes of Migration from Central America,” Alianza Americas and its members CARECEN Washington DC, CARECEN San Francisco, Central American Black Organization (ONECA), Hondureños Contra el SIDA, Casa Yurumein, Centro Presente and its partners Presente.org, Latin American Working Group, Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, and OXFAM, will host the live virtual conversation “What Are the Root Causes of Migration from Central American? Part 5: Gender Discrimination and Gender Based Violence,” this Thursday, April 15. The conversation will feature leaders and experts from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador who will discuss the impact of violence towards LGBTQI communities and women, recent cases of violence, and how social movements are fighting to protect these communities.
