Parliamentarian Opinion is Not End Of Fight For Immigrants Seeking Path to Permanent Protections
The following is a joint statement from Alianza Americas and Presente.org about the parliamentarian decision on immigration inclusions in the federal budget:
“Now is the time to pass long-overdue legislation that puts millions of people on the path to permanent protections. The Senate Parliamentarian’s disappointing opinion will not stop us from continuing our fight to ensure Congress and the White House deliver for immigrant communities. The administration must use every ounce of its administrative power allowed by existing law to support and protect immigrant communities. In the case of the U.S. Congress, they must exhaust all avenues available in order to make sure that generous immigration policy changes are included in the final version of the reconciliation package they plan to enact,” said Oscar Chacon, executive director of Alianza Americas.
“Over 70% of Americans across the country support a pathway to permanent protections for undocumented populations. While the parliamentarian’s opinion is regrettable, we call on Senate Democrats and the White House to do everything in their power to ensure these transformative immigration provisions remain in the reconciliation package. We need a new generation of immigration policies deeply anchored on the vastly positive economic, social, cultural, and political impact immigrant communities have had in the U.S., as well as in their countries of origin,” said Matt Nelson, executive director of Presente.org.

La opinión de la Parlamentaria del Senado no es el fin de la lucha de los inmigrantes por alcanzar protecciones permanentes
La declaración que sigue es la respuesta conjunta de Alianza Americas y Presente.org acerca de la opinión emitida por la Parlamentaria del Senado sobre reformas migratorias en el marco del presupuesto federal:
“El momento para aprobar cambios pospuestos por mucho tiempo es ahora, cuando de establecer caminos hacia la residencia permanente para millones de inmigrantes se trata. La decepcionante opinión emitida ayer por la Parlamentaria del Senado no detendrá la lucha a favor de resultados concretos a favor de los inmigrantes, tanto del Congreso, como de la Casa Blanca. La Administración Biden-Harris debe utilizar cada onza del poder administrativo que la ley les otorga en aras de apoyar y proteger a personas migrantes. En el caso del Congreso, se deben agotar todos los caminos en aras de conseguir que cambios generosos en la Ley de Inmigración sean parte de la versión última del paquete presupuestario que se busca aprobar,” dijo Oscar Chacon, director ejecutivo de Alianza Americas.
“Mas del 70% del público estadounidense apoya la idea de crear caminos hacia formas permanentes de protección para personas que viven en el país sin autorización migratoria. Si bien la opinión emitida por la Parlamentaria es lamentable, urgimos a los senadores Demócratas y a la Casa Blanca a tomar acciones que aseguren que cambios sustantivos en la Ley de Inmigración sean parte de la versión última del paquete presupuestario que está siendo gestionado. Necesitamos una nueva generación de cambios en política de inmigración, que reflejen las vastamente positivas aportaciones económicas, sociales, culturales y políticas que las personas migrantes hacen a los Estados Unidos de América, como también a sus países de origen,” declaró Matt Nelson, director ejecutivo de Presente.org.
