#SomosSalud: Immigrant Communities Lead Local Health Initiatives to Keep Families Safe During COVID-19 Pandemic
Virtual press conference
WHAT: Alianza Americas, the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission, Latino Commission on AIDS, and Presente.org will host a virtual press conference with Alianza Americas member organizations to raise the voices of immigrant leaders and advocates who are leading a coordinated health initiative named Somos Salud. The initiative is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to support Latinx people overcome barriers caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Panelists will share how they’re helping their respective communities overcome obstacles, such as language barriers to CDC guidance, lack of public transportation in rural areas to attend vaccine sites, lack of access to technology to make vaccine appointments, lack of accessible vaccination schedule availability, and more. The event will be conducted in English and Spanish. *Spanish-English / English-Spanish interpretation available*

The U.S.- Mexico Border Health Commission (USMBHC) is a binational body, created in July 2000 through an Agreement between the governments of Mexico and the United States, in order to identify and evaluate the health problems that affect the border population, as well as facilitating actions for their care. The Federal Governments of Mexico and the United States, through the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, are part of the organizational structure of the USMBHC and actively participate in various initiatives.
The Latino Commission on AIDS is a non-profit organization founded in 1990 in response to the unmet need for HIV/AIDS prevention and care for Latinx/Hispanics. Our public health mission is to address the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, in the context of addressing health disparities, by spearheading health advocacy, promoting health education, developing and replicating evidence-based programs for PLWHA and high-risk communities, and by building capacity across the public health sector and strategic partners nationally.

#SomosSalud: comunidades inmigrantes lideran iniciativas de salud locales para mantener a las familias seguras durante la pandemia de COVID-19
Conferencia de prensa virtual
QUÉ: Alianza Americas, la Comisión de Salud Fronteriza México-Estados Unidos, la Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA y Presente.org organizarán una conferencia de prensa virtual con las organizaciones miembros de Alianza Americas para levantar las voces de los líderes y defensores inmigrantes que lideran una iniciativa de salud denominada Somos Salud. La iniciativa está financiada por los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés), para ayudar a las personas de origen latinoamericano a superar las barreras causadas por la pandemia COVID-19. Los panelistas compartirán cómo están ayudando a sus respectivas comunidades a superar los obstáculos, como las barreras del idioma para la orientación de los CDC, la falta de transporte público en las áreas rurales para asistir a los sitios de vacunación, la falta de acceso a la tecnología para programar las citas de vacunación, la falta de disponibilidad de horarios de vacunación accesibles, entre otros. El evento se llevará a cabo en español. *Interpretación español-inglés / inglés-español disponible*

La Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA (Latino Commission on AIDS) es una organización sin fines de lucro fundada en 1990 en respuesta a la necesidad insatisfecha de prevención y atención del VIH / SIDA para personas latinas/hispanas. Nuestra misión de salud pública es abordar el impacto de la epidemia del VIH/SIDA, en el contexto de abordar las disparidades de salud, encabezando la defensa de la salud, promoviendo la educación sanitaria, desarrollando y replicando programas basados en evidencia para PVVS y comunidades de alto riesgo, y por creación de capacidad en todo el sector de la salud pública y los socios estratégicos a nivel nacional.
