Biden Administration Should Continue Steps to Reunite All Families
Four children will unite with their mothers this week, a first step in a necessary long sustained effort to reunite all families
The following is a joint statement from Alianza Americas and Presente.org in response to the Biden Administration’s announcement of the reunification of four children, who were separated from their parents by the prior Administration.
Finally, four children from Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico who entered the U.S. and were separated from their parents by the Trump Administration’s family separation policy, will be reunited with their mothers this week. This is certainly welcomed good news and Alianza Americas and Presente.org commend the Biden Administration for this initial effort. However, there is much more work to be done as hundreds of children remain separated from their parents. We need more bold actions like this that have a direct impact on the lives of immigrant and asylum-seeking children and their parents. We urge the administration to continue efforts to reunite every single child with their parents. Reuniting these four families is the first step to undo the harm caused by these traumatic human rights violations. Additionally, other forms of reparations such as mental health treatment and legalization options are necessary for each family. We hope to continue hearing similar announcements from the Administration in the coming weeks.

La administración Biden debe continuar con los esfuerzos para reunificar a todas las familias
Cuatro niños se unirán a sus madres esta semana, un primer paso en un esfuerzo necesario para reunificar a todas las familias.
El siguiente es un pronunciamiento de Alianza Americas y Presente.org en respuesta al anuncio de la administración Biden sobre la reunificación de cuatro niños que fueron separados de sus padres por la anterior administración.
Finalmente, cuatro niños de Honduras, Guatemala y México que ingresaron a Estados Unidos y fueron separados de sus padres por la política de separación familiar de la administración Trump, se reunirán con sus madres esta semana. Sin duda, esta es una buena noticia y Alianza Americas y Presente.org aplauden a la administración Biden por este esfuerzo inicial. Sin embargo, hay mucho más trabajo por hacer ya que cientos de niñas y niños siguen separados de sus familias. Necesitamos acciones más audaces como esta que tengan un impacto directo en las vidas de los niños inmigrantes y solicitantes de asilo y sus padres. Llamamos a la administración a continuar los esfuerzos para reunir a cada niño y niña con sus padres. Reunificar a estas cuatro familias es el primer paso para reparar el daño causado por estas traumáticas violaciones de derechos humanos. Además, otras formas de reparación como la atención en salud mental y las opciones de regularización son necesarias para cada familia. Esperamos seguir escuchando anuncios similares de la administración Biden en las próximas semanas.
