National/International Latin American Migrant-led and Human Rights Organizations Condemn Violence Against AAPI Communities
The following is a joint statement from Presente.org and Alianza Americas:
“As a network of Latin American immigrant-led organizations from across the country and the nation’s largest online Latinx organizing group, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the relatives of every one of the victims of the mass shootings that occurred in Atlanta two days ago. Six of the eight victims in these acts of violence were Asian women, making this a heinous act driven by misogyny, racism, and white supremacy.
The growing presence, resistance, and movement building in the face of so much pain and death give us hope. But we need more than hope — we need to make sure that the tragedies stop. As a network of organizations fighting against racial prejudice and the continuing effects of white supremacy, we are in solidarity with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities across the U.S. during this painful moment. We condemn racism and all acts of violence motivated by misogyny, racial and ethnic prejudice.
We will act firmly against all narratives that dehumanize and demonize ethnic and racial minorities, including those who are born in the U.S., as well as those who are born abroad. The insidious connection between misogyny and white supremacy is evident in the rhetoric and actions of perpetrators. In this moment of great tragedy, we call on all people of good faith to condemn all acts motivated by racial and ethnic hatred.
We also call on all communities, especially minority communities, to strive to become far better organized in order to effectively fight back against structural racism and all actions motivated by racism. Only organized communities can succeed in the struggle to build a better society and a better world where the human rights of every person are truly honored and respected.”

Organizaciones lideradas por inmigrantes latinoamericanos en EE. UU. condenan la violencia en contra de las comunidades de origen asiático
La siguiente es una declaración conjunta de Alianza Americas y Presente.org:
CHICAGO – Como red de organizaciones lideradas por inmigrantes latinoamericanas en los Estados Unidos, junto a la más grande organización Latinx enfocada en la movilización digital, expresamos nuestras condolencias a los familiares de cada una de las víctimas de los tiroteos masivos que ocurrieron en Atlanta esta semana. Seis de las ocho víctimas de estos actos de violencia eran mujeres asiáticas, lo que hace de este un crimen atroz impulsado por la misoginia, el racismo y la supremacía blanca.
La creciente presencia, resistencia y construcción de movimiento social que actos criminales tan dolorosos como estos generan, nos da esperanza. Pero necesitamos más que esperanza: debemos asegurarnos que las tragedias se detengan. Como organizaciones que luchamos en contra de los prejuicios raciales y los efectos continuos de la supremacía blanca, nos solidarizamos con las comunidades asiático-americanas e isleñas del Pacífico (AAPI, por sus siglas en inglés) en los EE. UU. Durante este doloroso momento, condenamos el racismo y todos los actos de violencia motivados por la misoginia, y los prejuicios raciales y étnicos.
Actuaremos con firmeza contra todas las narrativas que deshumanizan y demonizan a las minorías étnicas y raciales, incluidas las que nacen en los EE. UU., así como las que nacen en el extranjero. La conexión entre la misoginia y la supremacía blanca es evidente en la retórica y las acciones de los perpetradores. En este momento de gran tragedia, pedimos a todas las personas conscientes que condenen todos los actos motivados por la misoginia, como también el odio racial y étnico.
Hacemos un llamado a todas las comunidades, especialmente a las minorías étnico raciales, a reforzar la lucha contra el racismo estructural y todas las acciones motivadas por el racismo. Solo las comunidades organizadas pueden tener éxito en la lucha por construir una sociedad y un mundo mejor donde los derechos humanos de todas las personas sean verdaderamente respetados.
