NATION’S LARGEST LATINX CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION, PRESENTE.ORG, DENOUNCES FACEBOOK’S PLAN TO BAN IMMIGRANTS FROM CIVIC PARTICIPATION

May 16, 2018

Statement from Matt Nelson, Executive Director, Presente.org:

"Facebook’s reckless, intrusive ID requirements for ad buys is a dangerous attempt to divert attention from their disastrous security problems and would keep 11 million U.S. residents, including dreamers from fully engaging in our democracy at such a critical moment in our nation’s history.

"Even for US citizens, a social media platform now notorious for leaking the personal data of millions to Cambridge Analytica should never be entrusted with social security or passport information. Furthermore, Facebook data has been used by ICE and other law enforcement agencies to target and criminalize our communities. Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook must reverse this policy immediately and commit to protecting our privacy and upholding basic civil rights and free speech.”
