Presente.org: We Hope Pope’s Message of Inclusion Shakes GOP Out of Anti-Immigrant Fervor

Sept. 24, 2015

Statement from Presente.org Executive Director Arturo Carmona:

“We hope that Pope Francis’ message of inclusion, respect for differences, and support of human dignity, all heavily applauded by Congress today, shakes our country and the GOP out of its current anti-immigrant and anti-latino fervor. The Pope's message stands in stark contrast to the dark era of fear, hate and xenophobia the United States has entered, going after Latinos, immigrants and other vulnerable communities. We call on our political leaders to uphold the Pope’s call for greater economic equality and justice for immigrants, communities of color and the poor, and we hope that translates into actual action for our nation’s 11 million undocumented Americans, our criminal justice crisis, and increasingly unsustainable income inequality.”
