STATEMENT: Presente.org Responds to Jorge Ramos’ Ejection From Donald Trump Press Conference

Aug. 26, 2015

On Tuesday, Latino television anchor and journalist, Jorge Ramos, was forced to leave Donald Trump’s press conference after confronting Trump regarding his controversial stances on immigration.

In response, Arturo Carmona, executive director of Presente.org, released the following statement:

“Tuesday's disgraceful incident just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how well spoken, well dressed, successful or famous someone is, racism is racism. Trump’s hateful comments, namely ‘go back to Univision’, warrant nothing less than a public apology to Ramos and Latino populations across America, who work tirelessly to make a living for themselves and their families."

"It’s clear to see that Trump’s social, economic and political positions come from a place of white privilege and class privilege; the same privileges that have enabled him to sustain this joke of a presidential campaign for so long. We are enraged that the GOP continues to give this racist, sexist, bigoted individual a platform to spread his hateful ideologies and will stop at nothing to ensure that circus subsides.
“Trump’s harassment of the media— first Megan Kelley for being a woman, now Jorge Ramos for being Latino, and the reaction from his supporters uncover a bigotry within the Republican Party that will poison America. We urge the media to not view this incident any differently from his run-in with Megan Kelley. Discrimination is discrimination, whether the victim is white or Latino."
