Presente.org Reacts to the Passage of SB 350 and SB 32

June 3, 2015

Los Angeles, CA – Today, the California State Senate voted to advance the Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act of 2015 (SB 350) as well as the Climate Pollution Reduction Beyond 2020 (SB 32), which will help ensure that California remains a leader in fighting human impact on climate change.

In response, executive director of Presente.org Arturo Carmona released the following statement:

“The environmental legislation advanced today benefits working Californians, particularly Latinos, who live in communities that are on the front lines of environmental pollution and climate change. There are various pieces of legislation that moved today, but Presente is particularly excited about policy language in SB 350 that aggressively cuts down petroleum use by 50%, increases renewables by 50%, and increases building energy efficiency by 50%. What's most exciting though, is that this legislation puts the issue of environmental justice front and center, attacking environmental discrimination, advancing renewable energy generation, and promoting economic development and local job growth. This is something we don’t see every day.

We are also pleased that SB 32 is moving forward as it represents a central piece of the puzzle in curbing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and fighting climate change. As this bill moves through the Assembly, we will continue to work to ensure more is done to protect Latinos and working communities, particularly in ensuring that GHG reductions are happening in our neighborhoods and that more benefits are reaching our communities to mitigate environmental impacts."
