Presente.org Responds to Mass Shooting in Charleston Church

June 18, 2015

Yesterday, nine individuals of the Black community were shot and killed inside the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mariana Ruiz, Managing Director of Presente.org released the following statement in response:

“Our hearts go out to the people of Charleston during this terrible time and we relay our deepest condolences to the victims' families. Yesterday's act of domestic terrorism is our nation’s most recent example of violence against Black people. Over the next few days, more details will emerge, but the fact remains that any discussion of this crime without the mention of racism is obscuring the truth. We condemn this latest attack against the Black community and call for swift acts of justice.”
