Presente.org Responds to Failure of Trade Adjustment Assistance Measure in House of Representatives

June 12, 2015

Today, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly against the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) measure.

In response, Executive Director of Presente.org Arturo Carmona released the following statement:

“Presente applauds the courage of the Congressional members who stood up for working and middle class families, Latinos, immigrants and other low income communities threatened by the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Today’s vote is a crucial blow to the Trade Adjustment Assistance measure, a focal point of one of the most secretive, corporation pandering trade deals this nation has ever seen; the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The days of our nation outsourcing jobs with living wages to foreign countries, only to see the top 1% benefit, must become a facet of the past. Over the coming days, Presente will continue working to ensure that the TPP never sees the light of day, urging policy leaders to focus on rebuilding an economy that serves communities of color and middle and working class Americans, rather than those who benefit off of exploitation."
