Presente.org Responds to Shooting Death of Jessica Hernandez by Denver Police

Statement from Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org:

"The Denver Police have developed a dangerous practice of shooting at moving vehicles - four times in the last seven months - even after a 2008 review at the request of an independent monitor found DPD policies on firing at moving vehicles too permissive.

This flagrant abuse of power most recently caused the death of 17 year old Jessica Hernandez. Jessica's death could have been prevented and the DPD must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Latinos and our allies, along with more than 11,000 Presente.org members are calling on the U.S. Attorney General to investigate DPD for the shooting death of Jessica Hernandez. From Ferguson to Denver, the police must be held accountable for their crimes and the violence against young people of color must stop. "
