Presente.org: House Vote on KXL Sells Out Latinos

Feb. 11, 2015

Statement from Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org:

“Fossil fuel corporations just bought yet another vote in Congress. If Congressional Republicans, and their 29 tone-deaf Democratic partners, looked at the numbers, they might realize that backing Keystone XL is the nail in the coffin for their already strained relationship with Latinos. Latinos know first hand the brutal affects of climate change fueled extreme weather— from droughts across the Southwest to floods and extreme storms in cities like Miami. Climate is second only to immigration in importance for our members, and we are appalled to see Congress throw our communities under the bus, yet again, for the sake of their donors."

“We urge President Obama to stand with Latinos and the growing climate movement to once and for all reject this pipeline, and we look forward to celebrating outside the White House when he does."
