NATION’S LARGEST ONLINE LATINO ORGANIZING GROUP, PRESENTE.ORG, ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP

OSCAR CHACON AND FAVIANNA RODRIGUEZ NEW INTERIM CO-DIRECTORS OF PRESENTE.ORG; FORMER ED ARTURO CARMONA TAPPED BY BERNIE SANDERS CAMPAIGN

Oct. 2, 2015

Presente.org, the nation’s largest online Latino organizing group, is today announcing exciting new leadership. The group announced two new interim co-directors: Oscar Chacon, long-time Executive Director at the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC) and Favianna Rodriguez, a renown cultural strategist, artist and co-founder of Presente.org and CultureStrike. They will be working closely with Matt Nelson, Presente.org's new Managing Director. Matt is a seasoned campaign strategist, organizer, and communications expert who formally served as the Organizing Director at ColorOfChange.org, and was recently featured in the first major book on the Ferguson Uprising entitled, "Ferguson is America: Roots of Rebellion". Arturo Carmona, departing Executive Director, has been tapped to join Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.

Statement from Presente.org Board Chair Adrianna Quintero-Somaini:
“We are thrilled to announce Oscar Chacon and Favianna Rodriguez as the new interim co-directors of Presente.org. Oscar and Favianna are groundbreaking leaders and nationally recognized activists for Latino equality. They join us at a pivotal moment for Latino-Americans nationwide, given the unprecedented hate speech and rampant discrimination surrounding the 2016 presidential race. Favianna and Oscar’s leadership will allow Presente.org to continue and expand its efforts to advance equality and dignity for Latino-Americans nationwide. ”

Statement from Interim Co-Directors of Presente.org, Faviana Rodriguez and Oscar Chacon on Arturo Carmona’s new role:
“After years of holding politicians accountable on issues facing Latino communities— an end to deportations, climate change, mass incarceration, and economic inequality— Presente.org is also excited to announce that our former executive director, Arturo Carmona, has been tapped to join Bernie Sanders’ Presidential campaign in a senior role. An end to deportations and inhumane immigrant detention once seemed unattainable, but today they are key issues for any candidate because of the work of our hundreds of thousands of members and Latino communities nationwide who refused to give up in the fight for equality.”
