New Poll: Disproportionate Prosecution and Sentencing of Latinos for Drug Offenses Causes Latino Constituency to Shift Drug Views

What: Press call unveiling results of a major poll on all-time high Latino support for sentencing reform in the midst of SB 1010, the Fair Sentencing Act, moving through the California legislature. Poll results also cover evolving Latino views on sentencing issues, the disproportionate impact on Latinos, and concern with the Drug War’s effects on Latino communities. The call will:

- Showcase the startling statistics and trends on the incarceration of Latinos;
- Go over polling results showing broad Latino support for decriminalization when presented with information on sentencing;
- Challenge conventional wisdom that Latinos are conservative on the issue of sentencing reform relating to small drug possessions;
- What’s next for Latino groups on sentencing reform.
