Presente Applauds Reigning In of US Border Patrol Violence, Urges Pres. Obama to Take Further Action to Protect Human Life

Statement from Presente.org Executive Director Arturo Carmona on today’s announcement that the US Border Patrol will no longer shoot at vehicles or rock throwers along the US Border:

March 7, 2014

“We are relieved that President Obama has finally taken an important step to reign in the rogue and dangerous border patrol agents responsible for 19 deaths since just 2010. While we are disheartened that so many had to lose their lives or health to get to this point, it is still an important victory for human rights advocates who have pressured the President to take action since he took office in 2009. Presente.org has pushed and will continue to push the President to end the primary border crisis: the militarization of our border. We and our allies will not cease from holding the President and the Border Patrol accountable for murders and other violence perpetrated by the border patrol. Today's announcement by the President vindicates the cause of border justice and proves that these violent border patrol actions can and will come to a halt."

Presente.org has worked to raise the profiles of many of the victims of US Border Patrol violence in recent years, as well as to end militarization of the border. See more on their work here: Presente.org
