Presente.org Slams Gates Foundation for Another Year of Investing in For-Profit Prisons

New Tax Returns Reveal The Gates Foundation is Undeterred by Reports of Human Rights Abuses and Sexual Assaults at For-Profit Prisons

Dec. 8, 2014

A new report by Mother Jones’ Alex Park today revealed that the Gates Foundation is undeterred by ongoing human rights abuses and sexual assault concerns at for-profit prisons-- the foundation has renewed its investment in the for-profit prison company GEO Group despite the controversy.

“Another year, another multi-million dollar investment by the Gates Foundation towards incarcerating people for profit,” said Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org. “If they don't act soon to end all investment in putting people behind bars for profit, the Gates name will be dragged into the mud of anger and suffering that mass incarceration and racism in America has become in a post-Ferguson America. Latinos are watching Bill Gates, and we are appalled.”
