Latinos to Republicans: We Will Raise Political Hell if You Attack Executive Action on Deportations

Nov. 13, 2014

Washington, DC - As rumors of the imminent decision of executive action on deportation relief and executive action on immigration by President Obama signal a decision in the coming days or weeks, Presente Action Executive Director, Arturo Carmona issued the following statement:

"The time to begin the healing process with Latinos has come for President Obama. Latino lives and families are on the line: Any political maneuvering by the President and Democrats to appease Republicans by going small on executive action would be a major betrayal of the Latino community. It would also ensure the ongoing separation of immigrant families at unprecedented levels. If the President acts boldly and with courage on robust executive action that provides deportation relief to the 11 million undocumented immigrants in America, Latinos will have his back. If not, Latinos are fully willing to flee the Democratic Party in the same way we have fled the Republican Party.

"Republicans in Congress are making declaration of war against Latinos by opposing executive action and deportation relief. If the Republicans think we will stand by and let them crucify executive action and separate the most vulnerable families in our community, undocumented immigrants, they have something coming. The political hell we have raised against the President and weak Democrats on immigration over the last two years is nothing compared to what we will do to punish the Republicans if they derail relief to keep our families together. We dare them to fall in the trap. The face of America is changing and the days when Republicans can freely act on behalf of the darkest, most reprehensible forces in America today are numbered."
