Response to Republicans Immigration Blueprint

Statement from Presente.org Executive Director Arturo Carmona

Jan. 31, 2014

The best thing we can say about the Republican “principles” is that they’re finally announced. Beyond being announced, there’s little here that’s new, a lot to be concerned about and nothing in the way of real solutions. These Republican “principles” essentially mimic the punitive legalization and increased border militarization already proposed under the guise of “comprehensive immigration reform" in SB744. Centering “immigration reform” around money-sucking border militarization and punitive, partial, legalization is neither a blueprint nor a principle; it’s a recipe for the continued- and expanded- disasters of the kind already seen in the Obama Administration’s catastrophic policies: millions deported from throughout the country and thousands dead at the border.
