Presente.Org Backs Amendment Abolishing Discriminatory, Dangerous 287(g) Program

Joins National Demand that President Obama Come Out In Support of Chu-Polis Amendment

June 5, 2013

Presente.org joins the national call to support a bill in Congress that would effectively abolish the discriminatory and dangerous 287(g) program. Introduced by Rep. Jared Polis, the bill would defund the 287(g) program, which deputizes local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law. The failed program is, along with the “Secure Communities," responsible for the mass racial profiling, jailing and deportations of Latino immigrants.

“The 287(g) program is a complete and tragic failure,” said Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org. “Instead of including 287(g) in his budget, President Obama should take a stand and end this failed program by supporting the Chu-Polis amendment.”
