Presente.org Statement on Speaker Boehner’s Rejection of Immigration Reform

Nov. 13, 2013

After Speaker Boehner officially ruled out a House vote on the Senate’s comprehensive immigration policy reform bill this year, Arturo Carmona,Executive Director of Presente.org, the largest national Latino online advocacy organization in the country, issued the following statement:

“Speaker Boehner’s announcement that there will be no discussion in the House of comprehensive immigration reform legislation in 2013 was predictable. The announcement reflects the Republican commitment never to pass immigration reform and to continue the failed policies that racially profile, jail and deport millions of immigrants with no criminal record. His announcement also means that we must all focus our energy to make secure that President Obama stops failed policies that racially profile, jail and deport millions. In the absence of any comprehensive approach, demanding the President use his Executive Authority is the only realistic short term solution to the immigration crisis.”
