Tuition Equity for All Youth in Florida

Here's the message we sent to our members. After you've read it, please add your voice.

Demand equitable tuition for ALL Florida students

Dear Presente.org member,

An important education bill is stalled right now in the state legislature, and time is running out. SB 106, a bill that would allow every young person in Florida to pay the same tuition rate as our peers, can open doors for immigrant youth – but its not moving.

Sometimes we have to pay 4 times more than our classmates. For example, both US citizen students who are children of undocumented parents and undocumented youth in Florida have to pay as international students even though we grew up here. That means that education is out of reach for many.

But some elected officials are ready to take a stand. Senator Anitere Flores, the chair of the Judiciary committee, just made the commitment to place the bill up for a vote in her committee next week. So we need to make sure that we have the votes on the Judiciary committee, and they need to hear from the Hispanic Caucus.

Members of the Hispanic Caucus are incredibly influential in the Florida State Legislature so we will ask them to stand up for students and demand that members of the Judiciary committee vote yes for tuition equity. This bill could provide a chance to nearly 200,000 undocumented youth and many more US citizens who are children of undocumented parents to fulfill our potential.

Can you send the Hispanic Caucus and members of the Judiciary committee a message that you want every youth in Florida to have access to education?

SB 106 could open the door for many youth like me to attend college. Our goal is to collect 1,500 signatures so we can deliver them to the Judiciary Committee next week. Can you help us get there by signing and sharing it with 5 friends?
