Help us stop Rohrabacher & hateful rhetoric.

Can you chip in $5?

Dear Friend,

132. That’s the number of Tweets Rep. Rohrabacher has directed at people who are outraged about his attacks toward 18-year-old undocumented student Jessica Bravo.2 In a series of rants, Rep. Rohrabacher has railed against the "children of illegals" accessing education3 and even equated “Mexicans” with all undocumented immigrants.4

It’s exactly the same kind of stuff that led over 30,000 of us to get Jessica Bravo’s back in the first place. This is about more than just Rep. Rohrabacher—Presente members are sick of this kind of rhetoric that got us nowhere in the past and won’t move us forward today.

That’s why we’re not letting this go. We’re doubling down. We want politicians to know they can no longer claim civil discussion around immigration reform while spewing hate behind closed doors. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be setting a plan in motion to get House Speaker John Boehner and Republican leaders to denounce this kind of hate—and to be ready to mobilize every time we need to hold someone accountable. We need to raise $10,000 in the next 24 hours to launch this big new campaign. Can you chip in $5?

Yes, I can chip in $5 to hold politicians accountable for spewing hate.

Here’s what we’ve got in mind:

A show of power at John Boehner’s office: We’re pulling together activists, faith leaders, and constituents from Rohrabacher’s own district to deliver petitions in person next week and demand a response from John Boehner. We’ll need to print 30,000 petitions and signs, and get folks to DC, but it’ll be worth it—Boehner won’t be able to ignore us when we show up at his door.

A media team ready to go: Rep. Rohrabacher and Boehner both have well-connected spokespersons who will try to continue burying this story in the media. That’s why we need to pull together an equally powerful rapid-response communication strategy to make sure we get reporters to the petition delivery and keep this story in the media. And we’ll continue setting up a plan and network to expose any politician who spews hate.

An escalation strategy: If we still don’t get a response from Boehner, we’ll be setting up more in-person actions, including in his home state of Ohio, and pressure via social media until we do. And we’ll have a team ready to build this kind of grassroots power any time another politician thinks they can quietly get away with hate.

We’re in a critical moment that could define immigration reform debates for years to come. Let’s finally put an end to politicians who think our community will simply stay silent when they attack us with hate.

Click here to donate $5 to hold politicians accountable every time they try to silence us with hate.

Thanks and ¡adelante!
