Tell ICE to release Rosa Maria, Arturo, and Agustin!

Here's the message we sent to our members. After you've read it, please add your voice.

My wife was arrested by Border Patrol for protesting an unjust detention

Demand that she be freed.

Dear Friend,

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. As my wife Rosa Maria tried to tell me over the phone that she’d been arrested, Border Patrol agents in the background demanded documentation that she didn’t have.

I later learned that she had been indiscriminately grabbed by Border Patrol agents while protesting a traffic arrest here in Tucson, where police officers regularly stop brown people for minor – and often absurd – traffic infractions.

Sadly, the protest turned violent as police brutalized protesters with pepper spray and rubber bullets. My wife did nothing wrong by standing up for herself and for her community. Please join me in demanding that ICE close all cases associated with the protest and cancel their removals.

Here’s what happened. Tucson police stopped two day laborers, Agustín Ramon Reyes Sepulveda and Arturo Robles Urea, because the light above their van’s license plate was out. The men were not documented, so the local police called Border Patrol to have them deported. That’s when local residents started congregating around the van to protest their detention. Rosa Maria was one of them.

In response to the protest, police started firing pepper spray and rubber bullets into the crowd and arresting anyone they could get their hands on. They grabbed Rosa Maria and another woman named Mari Galup. Mari is a US Citizen, but Border Patrol arrested her anyway.

I want my wife back, and our daughter deserves her mother back. If enough of us speak out, our community will get our people back, and law enforcement will be sent the message that we won’t be targets of their unjust deportation pipeline.

Please join us in demanding that ICE close Rosa, Arturo, and Agustin’s cases and cancel their removal from the US.

Thank you.
