Tell McDonald's:

Stop discriminating against Latino employees!

Dear Friend,

Have you heard about the uproar against McDonald’s in the past week? The multibillion-dollar corporation partnered with VISA to create a McBudget website that tells employees how to live on its extremely low wages. Some highlights: get a second job, find some magical health insurance that costs $20 a month, and go without heat.1

After media from CNN to the Today Show criticized the ridiculous McBudget though, McDonalds made a slight change. It added a line for employees to budget for heat.

But get this.

The English version of the McBudget tells employees they should budget $50 a month for heat and the Spanish version for bilingual employees tells them to set aside $30 a month. Why are Latino employees being told to go with less heat? 2

Tell McDonald’s you're outraged by the assumption that Latino employees should live with less heat.

It’s bad enough that the ridiculous “budget” created by McDonald’s and VISA admits that it’s impossible for anyone to realistically live on the fast food chain’s poverty wages without taking on a second job or relying on government assistance to fill in some gaps. It doesn’t even account for gas, childcare, and groceries.

But to go the extra step of telling Spanish-speaking employees that they should go with less heat than other workers is downright insulting.

McDonald’s cares a lot about its image--it spends millions each year on advertisements to the Latino community. If enough of us sign this petition, the media will take notice and McDonald’s will be forced to fix the McBudget website so it reflects the fact that Latinos need just as much heat in their homes as other workers.

Tell McDonald’s CEO Donald Thompson to stop discriminating against Latinos on the McBudget website.

Thanks and ¡adelante!
