Jessie Hernandez' autopsy report just came back, and it suggests that Denver Police lied about being in danger when they shot and killed her.

Tell Denver District Attorney Mitchell Morrissey to criminally charge the officers who killed Jessie!

Dear Friend,

The autopsy report for 17 year old Jessie Hernandez just came in, and it eviscerates Denver Police Department's excuse for shooting and killing a teenage girl.

The autopsy suggests that the bullets that travelled through the driver-side door, not head-on — meaning that the police were not in imminent danger or in the vehicle's path when they shot her, as they self-servingly claimed.1

There's something rotten in Denver. While Presente will continue pushing for a federal investigation of Denver Police Department, this latest news means that Denver District Attorney Mitchell R. Morrissey has no excuse to not file charges against the officers who killed Jessie and threaten to further stain Denver law enforcement's reputation.

Mitchell Morrissey has a poor record of prosecuting police officers accused of wrongdoing. Most recently, he failed to bring charges against a local sheriff's deputy who was caught on tape punching and kicking a handcuffed inmate. In another incident in 2010, he failed to charge officers who killed homeless street preacher Marvin Booker with excessive force. His record of inaction is simply unconscionable.

But the intense community activism in Jessie Hernandez' death gives us an opportunity to publicly question his record before Denver's voters, to whom he's ultimately accountable.  Your petition signature can help increase scrutiny on Morrissey, putting his political future on the line and forcing him to more closely consider bringing charges against Jessie's killers.
