PASS ASSET BILL: GIVE ALL YOUTH A CHANCE

Here's the message we sent to our members. After you've read it, please add your voice.

ASSET can give undocumented students a chance to go to college

Ask the Colorado Legislature to pass it

Dear Presente.org member,

The struggle for justice for undocumented students, like myself, is going to be earned inch by inch and state by state. A key vote to advance a Colorado State bill that allows undocumented students the opportunity to go to college will take place on Monday. You have an opportunity to help Colorado take a giant leap forward for justice and for undocumented youth by taking action today.

The Colorado ASSET bill, S.B. 15, recently passed the Colorado Senate. It now moves to the Colorado State House where it has to pass both the Education and the Appropriations Committee.1 This is where you come in, you can help secure the votes needed to keep this bill alive and push it forward to a full vote in the House. Can you tell lawmakers on these committees to pass the ASSET bill?

The Advancing Students for a Stronger Economy Tomorrow (ASSET) Bill, would give undocumented students access to "standard" tuition rights, higher than in-state tuition rates, but lower than out-of-state tuition rates. Not only would the ASSET Bill give undocumented youth opportunities to pursue a higher education that they didn't have before, but it would actually result in $1.75-$4.2 million in new revenue for Colorado.2

Tell lawmakers on key committees in the Colorado House to stand up for undocumented students and pass the ASSET Bill.

The failure of the DREAM Act in 2010 left it up to the states to help improve the lives of undocumented students like myself. 13 States have already taken a stand for undocumented youth by providing them with in-state tuition. 3 The ASSET Bill is an opportunity for Colorado to lead on this issue. The passage of ASSET will help the economy of Colorado,4 provide the state with additional revenue, and it will create opportunities for thousands of students to achieve their dreams.

The ASSET Bill has already passed the Colorado Senate. If enough of us raise our voices it can pass the House and eventually be signed by the governor. Tell Colorado lawmakers to pass the ASSET Bill:

Thanks and ¡adelante!
